Conservation Lobby Day 2007

Registration Information

Join us for Conservation Lobby Day on Wednesday, February 21st to tell your legislators why you care about the Wisconsin Conservation Priorities. The event is free, and registration begins at 9:00 at the Inn on the Park in Madison. The program will begin at 10:00am.

Parking
The Inn on the park has limited parking available for Lobby Day for $8, additionally there are several public lots in the capitol area, expect to pay $8-10 for the day. For information on downtown parking click here.

Conservation Lobby Day Schedule

9:00-10:00
Registration

10:00-11:15
Program begins. The program will include background on the four conservation priority issues, a training on your upcoming lobby meeting, and time to meet the other constituents who will be in your meetings.

11:15-12:15

 

Lunch will be provided in the Inn on the Park Ballroom and you will have additional time to plan your upcoming meetings with other constituents.

12:30-5:00
Legislative meetings begin. Meetings will be held every 45 minutes, and are expected to be 30 minutes long with the last meeting ending at 5:00. You will meet with both your state Assembly Representative and your state Senator. You will have time between meetings to tour the Capitol Rotunda where more than 25 conservation organizations will have displays or to attend trainings and discussions back at the Inn on the Park. There will also be a series of breakout sessions at the Top of the Park (Located on the top floor of the Inn on the Park).

How to Get Local Media Attention for Your Conservation Lobby Day Experience
Presenters: Tim Eisele, Independent Outdoor Reporter & Emily Miota, SE Organizer for WLCV

Whether you are attending Conservation Lobby Day as an individual or representing an organization, you can get local media coverage of your experience. Outdoor reporter, Tim Eisele shares tips and ideas on how to get a story in your local paper or radio station. This session will give you guidance on how to spark the interest of local reporters and give you ideas for garnering media attention for future events.

How to Hold Your Legislator Accountable
Presenters: Sean Dekok and Francie Gary of WIsconsin League of Conservation Voters

There's no denying it. Legislators are more likely to vote well for air, water, land, and recreational opportunities if they know that they will be held accountable to their votes. Come to this session to learn how you can play a critical role in influencing legislators in every step of the legislative process...from the moment there is a bill draft to the moment it lands on the Governor's desk.

 

What do Wisconsinites Think of Natural Resources?
Presenter: Kristin Settle, Policy & Research Analyst, One Wisconsin Now

Are Wisconsin citizens thinking about natural resources when they vote? What issues are likely to drive the to the polls? Kristin will give the results of a multi-issue, statewide poll that shows what Wisconsinites think about energy, out-of-state waste and other natural resource issues. The results may suprise you!

Conservation Lobby Day Social at the Inn on the Park. Join your fellow citizen lobbyists, conservation professionals, and state Legislators for drinks, snacks, and a Wild Game Feed* at the Inn on the Park Ballroom.

*The Wild Game Feed has a cost of $7

Conservation Priorities 2007 Information

The conservation community has set a to-do list of the most important conservation issues in Wisconsin for the upcoming legislative session. There were quite literally hundreds of potential "top" issues. So, over the last 7 months, citizens and more than 45 Wisconsin conservation organizations came together to select true priorities. Unlike many groups that organize citizen lobby days, Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters absolutely will not charge an entrance fee for Conservation Lobby Day. We are completely committed to making Conservation Lobby Day free and open to any citizen of Wisconsin.
